It’s not that easy to keep a blog up to date. I always think about entries, but then I think that there’s not much point in going to all the trouble, it’s probably not that interesting to anyone else. However, when I look through many of my old entries I pretty much just rambled on about anything! The coolest thing about it is that I can now go back to those entries and all these forgotten memories come flooding back. It’s great.

I should try to write more, so here goes a little entry:

On Friday night I was riding my bike through Lonsdale St, Bradddon, on the way to get some ingredients for dinner (falafel for those who are interested). Just as I was riding past the construction zone next to Civic Pub, a guy opened his car door and I ran straight into it. (I had my lights on, so he should have noticed me) I flew right over the handle bars and did a commando style roll on the road. I didn’t realise what had happened for a second, so I got up as quickly as possible to assess the sitch. The guy ran straight over to me and asked of I was OK. My initial response was “I’m not sure, I think I’m OK?” I was in shock!  He asked again and I pretty much gave the same answer. I checked myself over and the only damage to me was a little graze on the palm of my hand and that’s about it. I asked if his car was OK and apparently I did a fair bit of damage to the inside of his car door, but I didn’t get to see it. My bike wasn’t damaged at all. He was really good about it all and said that he worked at the Civic Pub and if I had any issues that I could come and see him.

After all that, I hopped on my bike and off I went to Supa Barn.   My wrist hurt a little bit, I thought it might have been broken/fractured, I refused to go to the hospital on Saturday because I didn’t want to waste a day hanging out in the emergency ward (Boooring!) Thankfully it’s not hurting as much today, so I think it’s safe to say that I got off pretty lucky; it could have been so much worse.

It’s actually happening, guys. Wedding preparations are in full swing; the suit and dress have been bought, wedding bands organised, photographer booked, save the dates sent, wedding celebrant locked in. (T can fill you in on more of the details here)

There was a while there where we had totally put the wedding on the back burner, a low priority, something that wasn’t necessary, but when H arrived there was this feeling that both T and I had that told us that we should make this shiz official. So the wedding was back on. We decided early on that something casual was what we wanted. The whole formal sit down wedding format just didn’t seem like us and would have cost us a fortune. We’re having a garden wedding in every sense of the word, in fact, the ceremony will be in the front yard and the reception will be in the back yard. We’ll have lots of food like lamb on a spit and many other options for the vegetarians, of course! Heaps to drink and great music to dance to. The most important ingredient in all of this is the company.

The idea is that we want to celebrate our relationship and get all of good family and friends back together to help us out. It’s going to be fantastic, especially seeing as many of our friends are everywhere but Canberra, it’s rare that we all get to see each other at the same time in the same place.  Excited doesn’t even begin to explain how I’m feeling about it.

The last couple of days have really felt like spring, it’s just amazing (Today’s top reached 21 degrees!) On the way home last night, I snapped this photo with my iPhone.

One thing that I’m looking forward to over the warmer months is getting T and H on the bike so we can go cruising around the city. How old does a bub have to be before you can chuck them in a bike baby seat?

H is the best, he’s so incredibly well behaved and brings us the most amazing happiness. I urge everyone I know to have a baby! I’ve already bought him his first sneakers; watermelon Vans that came all the way from Colette, Paris! They’re the cutest shoes I’ve ever come across.  I’m pretty sure they’re already too small.  He’s worn them once. for about 10 minutes. Money well spent dad. (I don’t regret it at all, in fact I need to order a bigger size for him)

Being a Dad is great, it’s nothing like what I expected. Everyone told me that life would become more difficult and that I’d never sleep again. To be honest, H sleeps really well, so I haven’t been missing out on much sleep. He’s really integrated into our lives really well, we’ve taken him to parties, out to dinner and even bush walking (Baby Bjorn’s are the best thing ever!) He’s brought nothing but joy!

I’ll finish up this quick entry by linking to this blog post. It made me a little teary and makes me so happy to know that I’ve got so much to look forward to in fatherhood.

I’m already looking forward to next years, especially considering that we’ll have a mini person to join us. Excitement plus!

The question I ask is that where do all the people come from and where do they disappear to? Back to the suburbs, I’m guessing? At least one weekend a year I actually feel like I live in a big city.

In my preparation, I’ve gone through all my old records to find some inspiration. It’s been a such long time since I had a good look through them; there’s so many great tunes, so many fond memories. The one problem that I’ve had is that I’ve got no means of playing them, so I’ve typed the titles into Google in the hope that someone has uploaded them Youtube. I pretty much spent the whole of yesterday searching and listening, I had the greatest time.

For the Strictly House event, I’ve managed to work out what the folks at Mingle actually wanted and that’s basically an old Minque/Academy set (where’s Nash T!?). It’s not necessarily what I thought of when first offered the gig. I initially thought deep, sexy, tribal, jackin grooves, stuff from Peace Division, Derrick Carter, Mark Farina, Jay J, Chris Lum, Halo and Hip-E. All fantastic music and all stuff I’d love to play, even if I never really had many opportunities in the past to play them. An old Minque/Academy set is more cheesey, but ultimately more fun and probably what I know best. The set wont have the massive big room stuff, Hippo just isn’t the place, but it’ll definitely have some a lot of the stuff you knew and loved from those days. I’m really vibed.

My partner and I have a dream to open a men’s wear store in our town. Where one would start on such a venture is, at present, a big unknown and whether it’s financially viable or not is another question. Are there enough men in Canberra aged from about 25 – 40 who would seek out such a store? Who knows.
